Casa Convento, 5-star luxury
Welcome to Casa Convento, a slice of 5-star luxury set in the charming village of Canillas de Aceituno. With panoramic views of both the sea and hills and the National Park at your doorstep, you’re ideally placed for a delightful stay.
This three-storey property was lovingly designed by our own Suzanne. Each floor is dedicated to providing comfort, space, and the touch of luxury you deserve on your holiday. The ground and first floors host two large en-suite bedrooms, both measuring a generous 32/34 square metres. Each bedroom is equipped with blackout-lined silk curtains, down pillows, and dimmable lights, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. The attached bathrooms feature power showers within the baths, with one bathroom offering an additional stand-alone shower for convenience. Double basins, high-quality hair dryers, and the provision of robes and slippers add to the comfort. Please remember not to keep the slippers, though, as we’re not a hotel spa! Towels, including beach towels, are also provided for your convenience.
There’s also a handy separate utility room with another shower, just in case you need it. As you ascend to the top floor, you’ll be greeted by a modern open-plan living space that offers breathtaking views over the village and the sea. There’s even a cargo lift, so carrying up shopping or logs is not a concern. The dining terrace is perfect for enjoying meals alfresco, complete with a built-in charcoal BBQ and a pyramid gas heater for those cooler evenings.
Keen cooks will appreciate our well-equipped kitchen, which comes with a food processor, orange press, microwave, and all the cutlery you’ll need. You’ll even find Spanish cookery books for those inspired to try local cuisine.
Accessed via a spiral staircase, the roof terrace is a real treat. It features adjustable sun loungers, privacy screening, a shade canopy, and a hot/cold shower. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the fantastic views of the surrounding landscape. If you fancy a dip, there’s a private, solar-heated pool within its own patio. The pool measures 5m x 2.7m x 1.3m deep, and there’s also a shower for convenience. However, do bear in mind that the pool temperature depends on sunshine hours.
Although Casa Convento is part of the delightful ‘pueblo blanco’ of Canillas de Aceituno, it retains its own private atmosphere. Parking isn’t reserved, but there’s space for three cars outside the house. Additionally, I provide access to CCTV, so you can check if there’s a space available from the car parking area, situated about 150 metres from the house before you make the journey. Your stay at Casa Convento promises to be a memorable one!
Sierra Tejeda National Park
Canillas de Aceituno is just a scenic 25-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Costa del Sol, Canillas de Aceituno feels like a different world altogether. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda National Park, the village offers an unspoiled glimpse into traditional Andalucian life.
Village Life
The narrow side streets are bedecked with pots of vibrant flowers. Mules and goats amble past, quite unperturbed by the humans they share their village with. The village air is filled with the calls of the fish-delivery chap, advertising his catch of the day. As the day cools into the evening, you might spot the local women practising their flamenco moves.
Many Activities
From this wonderful base, you can enjoy a host of activities. Go for a walk, indulge in some bird-watching, or grab your easel and paintbrushes. Take your camera along to capture the beautiful surroundings, pack a picnic and laze under the Andalucian sun, or sip on local wine while the cicadas sing. Join in the festivities in April and August and immerse yourself in local culture.
El Saltillo
For the adventurous, there’s the ‘El Saltillo’ walk, referred to as the ‘second Caminito del Rey’. This takes you on a panoramic hillside trek across the Puente Colgante, Europe’s third-longest footbridge.
Moroccan Rif mountains
Or, if you’d prefer, simply revel in the peace and comfort of Casa Convento. The choice of venue is yours – whether it’s basking in the rooftop sun before taking a dip in the private heated pool, enjoying a lunch with a view under the shade on the third-floor terrace, or bidding the day goodbye as you watch the sunset over Lake Vinuela. As you raise a cold glass of ‘fino’, the Moroccan Rif mountains rise mysteriously from the horizon. As evening falls, the swallows put on a breathtaking aerial display right before your eyes, a perfect end to a day in this enchanting Spanish haven.
